Travel safety
An honest answer for your dates and route
Ethiopia covers more than a million square kilometres and is home to more than 120 million people. Conditions vary a great deal between regions, and they change.
Where things stand
Open in some places, not in others
Some areas, including parts of the north, are currently under official travel warnings. Others, including Addis Ababa and the places we run tours today, are open and going about normal life.
We follow conditions every day. Before you pay anything, we’ll send you a briefing for your exact route that covers what’s happening on the ground and what the US State Department and UK Foreign Office advise.
On the road
How we reduce risk
-
Local guides and drivers
Guides and drivers who live in the regions they work in.
-
The right vehicle
Vehicles chosen for the route, from city cars to Land Cruisers.
-
Flights over long drives
Domestic flights instead of long drives where that’s the safer option.
-
Our team on WhatsApp
For the length of your trip.
-
Changes at no extra cost
Route or date changes when conditions require them.
If conditions change before you travel
We’ll move your route or dates at no cost. If you decide not to travel, everything you’ve paid stays as credit for 24 months. We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation and medical evacuation.
Tell us your dates and where you’d like to go, and we’ll send you an honest briefing before you decide anything.
