At Korcho, the Karo village stands on a bluff above a bend of the Omo River. It is the far point of our fullest short trip to the Lower Omo, where Ari, Mursi, Hamer and Karo communities live within a day’s drive of one another. Every visit is made with a local guide who knows the families; you ask before any photograph and pay photo fees to the person directly.

Two nights in Turmi mean fewer, longer visits, which photographers and unhurried travellers prefer. Expect heat, dust and rough roads, but only short walks.

Questions

About this tour

Karo or Dassanech?
Korcho has the river views; the Dassanech visit adds a canoe ride and a permit. Your guide will help you choose on the spot.
Can I take photos?
Only with consent. Fees are small cash amounts paid to the person you photograph, and your guide knows the current rate.
Will I see a Hamer bull jumping?
It happens after the harvest, roughly August to November, on no fixed dates. If a family holds one while you are there and welcomes visitors, we go, but we never promise it.
Is Lale’s Camp worth the VIP upgrade?
Yes, if you want to sleep in a tent beside the Omo River. That is the reason to choose it.
Can I join alone?
Yes. This is a private tour, so it runs for one traveller; add a single room as an optional extra.
