Ethiopia is often described as the birthplace of coffee. This gentle trip visits a coffee-growing area in the south-west, watches beans being picked, washed and roasted, and ends with a traditional ceremony.
It also gives time in Addis Ababa for museums, markets and the food scene.

Day 1 Arrival and a first taste of AddisAddis Ababa
Airport pick-up and check-in, then an evening at a traditional restaurant to meet injera and the wide range of stews.

The National Museum, Holy Trinity Cathedral and a guided walk through the Mercato, with a coffee stop along the way.

Day 3 Fly to Jimma and the coffee highlandsJimma
A short flight south-west to the Jimma area, where coffee grows under forest shade. We visit a farm during the season for picking and processing.

Day 4 From cherry to cupJimma
A hands-on morning: sorting, washing and drying beans, then roasting and grinding. The afternoon ends with a full coffee ceremony.

About this tour
When is the coffee harvest?
Picking generally runs from about October to January, depending on altitude. Outside the harvest we still visit farms to see processing and roasting.
Can I buy coffee to take home?
Yes. We will suggest good places to buy, and can help with packing and any export rules for your destination.
