Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival At Addis Ababa Bole International Airport

Our Dejene Ethiopia Tours representative will meet and greet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel (Hilton Hotel) where you will spend the night.

Day 2: Addis Ababa City Tour

After an early breakfast, your city tour can begin with a visit to the National Museum (presenting prehistoric, cultural, and archaeological attractions). Thereafter, you get to visit the Ethnographic Museum of Addis Ababa University (a show of Ethiopian culture, dressing styles, traditional practices of over 80 ethnic groups, and a collection of traditional musical instruments). Your visit also includes tourist attractions such as Emperor Menelik’s Palace, St. Raguel’s Church (after a drive to Entoto Mountain – 3000 m. elevation), Merkato, (the largest open-air market in Africa). The evening dinner will be hosted at one of the best traditional restaurants in Addis, where you can taste our Ethiopian cuisine and see the folk dances of the Ethiopian people. Spend the night at a hotel.

Day 3: Fly To Bahir Dar And Visit Lake Tana Island Monasteries & Blue Nile Falls

Fly to Bahir Dar early in the morning (45 minutes). Our tour guides will be there to meet you upon arrival to bring you to the hotel. The adventure continues with a boat ride on Lake Tana, where you will be brought to visit the medieval period island monasteries (incredible mural paintings and religious books) on Lake Tana. The visit includes monasteries such as Kibran Gabriel (only for men) and Entos. And, on the Zegien peninsula, you get to visit Ura Kidan Mehiret, Azuwa Mariam, and Mahal Giorgis. Enjoy a calm lunch break before driving roughly 30 km for a visit to the Blue Nile Falls. Spend the night at a hotel.

Day 4: Drive To Gondar And A Visit To The Fasiladas Castles

Visit the Royal Castles and the Bath of Emperor Fasiladas. Once a year, the bath is filled with water for the important Timkat (epiphany) ceremony. Continue your adventure and visit the Debre Birhan Selassie Church (Trinity at the Mount of Light), the Castle of Empress Mintewab, and the Kuskwam Complex – which is a royal compound built by the Empress Mentewab. In the early evening, you get a chance to visit ‘AzmariBet’ at Traditional Music Houses. Spend the night at Goha hotel.

Day 5: Excursion To Debarq, 100 Km Gravel Road To Visit The Simien Mountains National Park.

A lengthy drive will bring you to Debark (100 km from Gonder). You will finish the procedures at the headquarter of the park in Debarq before you continue to drive another 20 km. Enjoy a short trek and spend the day visiting the Simien Mountains National Park (registered by UNESCO as a world heritage site, with endemic mammals, birds, natural vegetation, and wonderful landscape). In the late afternoon, return to Debarq. Spend the night at the Simien Lodge in Sankeber, or Simien Park Hotel in Debarq.

Day 6: Drive To Axum

Enjoy an early morning drive to Axum (270 km from Debark) through the Simien Mountains, with magnificent topography and scenery, the Limalimo Gorge, and the Tekeze Valley. Arrive in Axum during the late afternoon. Check into a hotel and take a break. Dinner will be at the hotel. Spend the night at a hotel.

Start the day’s thrilling adventure by visiting the incredible Stelae of Axum, the Inscription of Ezana, Queen Sheba’s Palace, the famous St. Mary of Zion Church, ruins of ancient palaces (built until 4th century A.D.). Spend the night at a hotel.

Day 8: Flight To Lalibela

A short morning flight will carry you to Lalibela. Our tour guides will meet and greet you upon arrival and drive you to your designated hotel where you can rest for a few minutes. In Lalibela, you get to explore the eleven rock-hewn monolithic (carved from a single rock) Churches of Lalibela (a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with magnificent architecture and paintings inside the churches). In the evening, you will get back to the hotel, rest, have dinner and relax. Spend the night at a hotel.

Day 9: One More Day To Explore The Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches

Drive to the historical churches around Lalibela. Travel on the back of a mule or on foot as you make your way between churches like the Hill Church of Asheton Mariam, Yimerhane Kirsotos, Nakute LeAb, or Genete Maryam. Spend the night at a hotel.
